Partnerships

The land managed for flood protection provides unparalleled public access to the corridors along the Great Miami River and its tributaries. More than 20 public jurisdictions in five counties hold permits to operate parks and trails on Miami Conservancy District lands. 

Here is a list of some of the partners that work with us to provide public access and recreation opportunities: 

Five Rivers MetroParks
Five Rivers MetroParks is our largest partner, providing recreation opportunities on hundreds of acres of Miami Conservancy District flood protection land in the Dayton region.

Greene County Parks & Trails

Greene County Park District has a permit for a small section of recreation trail on MCD property from SR 444 to Marl Road near Huffman Dam.

Miami County Park District
Miami County Park District has a lease for approximately 26.5 acres of MCD land for Twin Arch Reserve, trail and trail bridge connector.

Metroparks of Butler County
MetroParks of Butler County has a lease on MCD land of approximately 8 acres for Bicentennial Commons in Middletown, and will soon be constructing a 1.6 mile trail near Lemon Township.  

Hamiton Parks Conservancy

Hamilton Parks Conservancy manages approximately 10 miles of the Great Miami River Recreation Trail, and manages Combs Park,  approximately 48 acres of MCD land.

Warren County Park District

Through a Clean Ohio Greenspace Conservation Fund grant, the Miami Conservancy District and Warren County joined forces to protect over 393 acres and 21,000+ feet along Twin Creek and the Great Miami River. With assets like Carmody Park and MCD’s 263 preserved acres (aka Castlebrook), and easements on several other properties, the project conserves critical habitats, safeguards drinking water supplies, and opens up trails, canoe access, and nature spaces for the public. Great Miami Riverway

The Great Miami Riverway is regional travel and tourism destination in southwest Ohio that includes more than 99 miles of paved trails and connected communities.

A program of the Miami Conservancy District, the Great Miami Riverway is guided by a Coalition of local 19 riverfront communities and organizations. The mission of the the Great Miami Riverway is building a strong, vibrant network of communities, connected by 99 miles of river, by increasing economic and community investment to attract more visitors, customers, jobs, and talented workers to southwest Ohio. 

Miami Valley Trails

A consortium of trail managing agencies, trail funding agencies, and convention and visitors bureaus, including the Mami Conservancy District, who work together to provide Information on the 350+ mile network of paved, off-street trails in the Miami Valley. 

Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission

The Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission (MVRPC) has served the planning needs of the Miami Valley in Southwest Ohio since 1964. Miami Conservancy District partners with MVRPC on a range pf programs and projects including coordination of the Great Miami River Watershed Network, trail funding, trail promotion, and the Great Miami Riverway.
