Twin Creek has long been called one of Ohio’s hidden gems—its clear waters and thriving ecosystems earning the highest praise from the Ohio EPA, which once noted the stream “merits the highest level of protection available” in the state. Today, that protection is possible through a powerful partnership between the Miami Conservancy District, Warren County, and a host of state and local allies.
With support from the Clean Ohio Greenspace Conservation Fund, the Twin Creek/Carmody Park and Preserve project secured more than 393 acres of critical streamside land. Together, these protected areas safeguard over 21,000 feet of riparian corridor along both Twin Creek and the Great Miami River. This isn’t just about land—it’s about protecting Warren County’s drinking water wellfields, preserving habitats for rare and endangered species, and creating new opportunities for families to connect with nature.
Miami Conservancy District's role was central. By granting a conservation easement on its 263-acre property at the mouth of Twin Creek, Miami Conservancy District ensured permanent protection for one of the most ecologically rich sections of the watershed. In turn, Warren County Park District committed to stewarding the land and opening new trails, fishing access, and canoe launches for the public.
The project’s reach extends far beyond boundaries on a map. It connects Carmody Park—already a beloved 62-acre Waren County preserve—to Miami Conservancy District land and several newly acquired parcels, forming a nearly continuous stretch of forested riverfront. Together, this network of parks and preserves ensures clean water, healthier rivers, and safe, sustainable recreation for generations to come.
This achievement is a testament to collaboration. From local churches and private landowners to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and Five Rivers MetroParks, many hands and hearts came together to protect Twin Creek. The grant award recognizes not just the value of the land, but the power of partnership—something Miami Conservancy District and Warren County continue to champion as they safeguard Southwest Ohio’s waters.
What began as an ambitious vision is now a reality: Twin Creek and Carmody Park stand protected, preserved, and open to the community, ensuring that one of Ohio’s finest natural streams will continue to inspire and sustain life for years to come.
