Paddlers Paradise: Plan Your Next River Adventure!

To plan your next outing, use our interactive map to find river access points, food nearby, park amenities, and camping/overnight options.

  1. Check in each river section to see detailed access points, mileage, and features. Decide if you want a scenic paddle, a fishing weekend, or riverside hike and bike.

  1. Pick Access Points and Plan Your Route:  

  • Turn on the “River Access” and “Hazard” layers. 
  • Zoom in to find launch and exit points that match your desired trip length. 
  • Look for mileage markers to estimate distance. 
  • Check for any dams/hazards along the way so you can plan portages or alternative spots 
  • Tip: for a weekend getaway, look for a stretch near a town or park with overnight accommodations. There are some campsites and RV parks along the river.

  1. Find Amenities Nearby 

  • Use the “Points of Interest” and “Parks” layers:
  • Look for campgrounds, parks, or nature preserves along the way.
  • Identify places to eat, rest, or visit like breweries, museums, or picnic areas.
  • Pair your river trip with a hike or visit a local attraction for a full experience.

  1. Customize for Specific Activities 

  • Paddling: Choose wider, calmer stretches of the Great Miami
  • Fishing: Zoom in to find known fishing access points. Some of the parks along the river may also allow fishing there, check their websites to be sure. 
  • Biking and Paddling: Use the Great Miami Riverway trail, which runs parallel to the river-bike one way and paddle back!
  • Photography or Wildlife Watching: Focus on natural preserves and scenic overlooks marked on the map. Many of the parks along the way promote bird watching.

  1. Pack and prepare! 

Once you have planned: 

  • Download, print, or screenshot your river section map. 

  • Note safety information (weather forecast, river flow, hazards, sunscreen) 

  • Bring all gear, food, dry bags, and printed directions if cell service might be limited
