The Atomic City Bridge at the park was completed in 2023 to connect the bike path to other side of the river. The park is named for Goodrich Giles, a former slave and Civil War veteran who became Piqua’s first major Black businessman. He was also the first Black candidate to run for Piqua’s city council. He lost narrowly but went on to become the first Black stockholder of a local bank.
