Explore the dam, meet the experts, and learn how southwest Ohio stays safe from flooding
GERMANTOWN, OH – The Miami Conservancy District (MCD) invites the community to a special open-house tour of Germantown Dam on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, from 2:00 to 5:00 PM. This free, family-friendly event provides a rare opportunity to experience one of southwest Ohio’s critical flood protection structures from the downstream side of the dam.
Attendees will learn how MCD’s team keeps Germantown Dam strong, discover the engineering behind the region’s flood protection system, and explore the history of the dam, including the devastating 1913 flood that led to its construction.

About Germantown Dam
Germantown Dam is an earthen embankment spanning Twin Creek in southwestern Montgomery County, near the Village of Germantown. U.S. Conservancy Road runs across the top of the dam. Construction began in March 1918 and was completed in November 1920. The dam is part of MCD’s regional flood protection system, designed to protect communities, property, and infrastructure from catastrophic flooding in southwest Ohio.
