The Miami Conservancy District (MCD) was proud to sponsor the Warren County Test Your Well event on November 5 at Carlisle High School. The event gave residents the opportunity to have their private well water screened for common contaminants and to learn more about how to keep their water safe.
Participants brought in samples for onsite testing of nitrate, nitrite, and iron, as well as laboratory analysis for total coliform, arsenic, and lead at a reduced rate. These tests provide valuable insights into the safety and quality of private well water—information that’s especially important for households that rely on groundwater as their primary source of drinking water.
The event was a collaborative effort among the Warren County Soil and Water Conservation District, Warren County Health District, Ohio Farm Bureau, and Carlisle High School, with MCD providing sponsorship, test materials, and technical support.
Mike Ekberg, MCD’s Manager of Water Resources Monitoring, helped coordinate the event and provided expertise to support the testing process. “These events are a great example of how local partnerships can help protect both public health and the region’s water resources,” said Ekberg. “When people test their wells, they’re taking an important step in understanding and safeguarding the quality of the Buried Valley Aquifer that supplies drinking water to more than 1.6 million people across Southwest Ohio.”
MCD’s sponsorship of local well testing programs reflects its long-standing commitment to protecting and monitoring the region’s groundwater. Through initiatives like Test Your Well, residents can learn more about their water, identify potential risks early, and take action to protect this critical shared resource.
