The Miami Conservancy District (MCD) will temporarily close a section of the Great Miami River Recreation Trail in Franklin to address erosion that recently developed downstream of Crains Run Park.
The closure will begin on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, and will impact the trail segment between Crains Run Park and Jackson Street. This is a significant stretch of trail, and no formal detour is available.
MCD crews will repair severe erosion along the riverbank near a wooden fence to keep people safe and ensure the long-term care and stability of the trail corridor. Signs will be posted above and below the closed section of trail. The trail will be completely closed to keep people safe while large trucks and heavy equipment are moving on the trail.
“We understand this is a heavily used section of the trail and that this closure is disruptive,” said Sarah Hippensteel Hall, Manager of Communications, Outreach, and Stewardship. “However, addressing erosion quickly is critical to public safety, protecting the trail, and surrounding infrastructure.”
The closure is expected to last several days. Updates will be shared on MCD’s social media channels.
